Bus and motorcoach

Big vehicles, big limits, many filings

Passenger carriers face some of the highest insurance requirements on the road, plus fuel tax in every state they cross and a payroll of drivers who work irregular hours.

Our office handles the tax, the books and the coverage together, so your fleet list, your fuel records and your policy schedule never disagree.

Special needs

What makes motorcoach work different, and how we help

Where operators get the most value from a coordinated office.

01

Very high liability limits

Federal rules require at least $5 million of liability for interstate vehicles seating 16 or more passengers, and many school and tour contracts ask for proof before booking.

How we helpWe shop passenger carrier coverage across carriers and keep certificates ready for every contract and venue.

02

Fuel tax across state lines

Coaches that cross state lines generally need IFTA licensing and quarterly returns with miles and gallons by jurisdiction.

How we helpWe gather trip data from your ELDs and fuel cards and file accurate IFTA returns every quarter.

03

Federal fuel tax credits

Diesel used in qualifying intercity and local buses can earn a federal fuel tax credit that many operators never claim.

How we helpWe review your routes and fuel use and claim the credit on Form 4136 with your return where it applies.

04

Seasonal crews and schedules

Tour season and school calendars swing payroll up and down, and driver hours need careful tracking.

How we helpWe run payroll that flexes with your season and keep quarterly and annual payroll filings on time.

Questions

What bus and motorcoach operators ask us

How much liability do motorcoach operators need?

For interstate carriers, federal rules set $5 million for vehicles seating 16 or more passengers and $1.5 million for 15 or fewer. Many customers ask for more, and we quote to what your contracts require.

Can bus companies get a fuel tax credit?

Diesel used in qualifying intercity and local bus service can earn a federal credit claimed on Form 4136. We check your service type and fuel records to see if you qualify.

Do my coaches need IFTA?

Generally yes, if they cross state lines and meet the weight or axle thresholds. We confirm licensing and file the quarterly returns.
