How to set up a rideshare LLC

  1. 1

Form your LLC and get an EIN

Our office forms your LLC in the state where you live and drive and gets your EIN, so your business has its own name and tax number for banking and taxes.

  2. 2

    Open a business bank account

Have your app payouts sent to an account in the LLC name. Pay fuel, phone and car costs from it so your records stay clean.

  3. 3

    Add rideshare coverage

A personal auto policy may not cover you while the app is on. Our agency quotes a rideshare endorsement or policy that fills that gap.

  4. 4

    Track mileage and expenses

Log business miles from the app and a mileage tracker. Our office records your income and expenses in QuickBooks Online each month.

  5. 5

Pay quarterly taxes and file yearly

Our office estimates your quarterly federal and state payments and files your yearly returns, including self-employment tax and every deduction you qualify for.

Do rideshare drivers need an LLC?
An LLC is optional, but it separates your driving business from your personal life and gives you a business name and EIN of its own. It also makes bookkeeping and tax filing cleaner. Our office forms the LLC, gets the EIN and keeps your records ready for tax time.
What can rideshare drivers deduct?
Most drivers deduct business miles at the IRS standard mileage rate, or actual car costs instead. You may also deduct phone costs, app fees, tolls, parking, car washes and supplies used for the business. Our office reviews your records and picks the method that lowers your tax.
Do I need to pay quarterly estimated taxes?
Usually yes. Apps do not withhold income tax, so most drivers pay federal estimates in April, June, September and January, and most states with an income tax expect estimates too. Paying on time helps you avoid underpayment penalties. Our office calculates each payment based on your actual earnings.
Does my personal car insurance cover rideshare driving?
Often not while the app is on and you are waiting for a ride or delivery. The app company coverage applies mainly once a trip is accepted. A rideshare endorsement fills the gap, often for a modest cost. Our agency quotes it with your personal auto policy.
